Jurassic Geist
debuting a dinosaur skeleton in a local brewery

cmc & rhinegeist

Who knew that dinosaurs and beer were a match made in heaven? (Our paleontologist, Dr. Glenn Storrs did!). Galeamopus, a rare specimen found and collected by the CMC Paleontology team, was unveiled to the public for the first time in Rhinegiest’s historic tap room in May 2018. The real magic of this project was ignited by two local icons getting together to celebrate a unique achievement in a way the city had not yet seen. From a marketing standpoint, our team was excited for the opportunity to “tap” into the Rhinegeist audience and expose them to some of our YP programs and initiatives - and to ignite some wonder with a 150 million year old dinosaur skeleton! Conversely, Rhinegeist was able to open up and show families that a tap room is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. Galeamopus lived in Rhinegeist from May to September 2018 and during that time, we hosted multiple events for different groups and lots of folks learned a little bit more about paleontology while they sipped their beers.

BRITTLEBRAin

Rhinegeist created a special Belgian Style Golden Ale to accompany Galeamopus. We decided to name it Brittlebrain, based on the Latin translation of the full name of the species. These guys were not hard headed! The beer had a special label that matched the branded Jurassic Geist merchandise sold during the run of the campaign.

galeamopus

Galeamopus is a special specimen for so many reasons. There are only about three of them found in the world, and CMC’s is one of the most complete with about 85% of it’s original bones. In the spine of the animal, you can spot some fused vertebrae from an assumed attack. Galeamopus is now on display in Cincinnati Museum Center’s Museum of Natural History & Science.
